Root Beer Glazed Ham

Guaranteed to add an exciting smell and taste throughout the house!

 

Ingredients:

  • 2 cans root beer
  • 4 tsp pepper jelly
  • 4 tsp Tabasco sweet & spicy pepper sauce
  • 6 whole cloves
  • 1 stick cinnamon
  • 1 bay leaf
  • peel & juice of ½ orange
  • peel of ½ lemon
  • 1 10-12 pound cured, smoked ham
  • ¼ cup dark brown sugar
  • ½ tsp dry mustard

Instructions:

  1. Combine first 8 ingredients in large saucepan; bring mixture to boil; then lower to simmer; cook about 30 minutes
  2. strain mixture and reduce liquid to about ½ cup; refrigerate if using the next day
  3. place ham on rack in disposable aluminum pan
  4. make shallow cuts in crossing pattern on top & sides of ham
  5. use just enough glazing sauce to completely cover the surface
  6. combine brown sugar and mustard and pat all over ham
  7. put ½ cup water into bottom of pan
  8. bake ham at 350° for 3 ½ to 4 hours, or until it inserted thermometer reaches 160°. baste every 15 minutes adding more water as needed
  9. remove from oven and allow 30 minutes before carving
