Bread Pudding & Whiskey Sauce

This recipe comes from the famous Bon Ton restaurant, New Orleans and is absolutely delicious!

 

Ingredients:

  • 1/3 loaf stale French bread
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 TBS pure vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup raisins
  • 1 1/2 TBS butter, melted

Whiskey Sauce:

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 stick butter, melted
  • 1/3 cup whiskey
    Directions:
  1. Break bread into pieces and soak in milk
  2. Squeeze bread and mix well
  3. Add eggs, sugar, vanilla, and raisins and stir well
  4. Pour the 1-1/2 TBS melted butter into bottom of heavy baking pan (approximately 4”x6”x3”)
  5. Pour bread mixtured into pan and bake at 350° for approximately 45 minutes or until pudding is firm and knife inserted comes out clean
  6. Allow pudding to cool, then cut into individual portions, placing each piece into a bowl or dish

Whiskey Sauce:

  1. Cream sugar and egg
  2. Add melted butter and stir until sugar is dissolved
  3. Stir in the whiskey
  4. When ready to servce, pour sauce over pudding and heat under broiler (you may want to use a baking dish, then transfer to serving dish)

Serves 8
