This delicious recipe was probably created during the 1940's and shared by our very close friends throughout the 50's & 60's.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup sugar
  • ¼ cup water
  • 1/3 tsp cream of tartar
  • 2 drops yellow food coloring
  • Grand Marnier orange liqueur
  • 1 quart milk
  • 1 cup whipping cream
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 7 lightly beaten egg yolks
  • 1 ½ TBS orange extract
  • ¼ tsp nutmeg
    Directions:
  1. Into a heavy skillet cook sugar, water, cream of tartar, and yellow food coloring over moderate heat; until carmelized
  2. Pour sugar mixture into 10 6-ounce custard cups
  3. Add 1 ¼ tsp Grand Marnier into each cup; set aside
  4. Scald milk and whipping cream, add salt and sugar, stir continuously until dissolved
  5. Add mixture slowly to egg yolks thoroughly combining
  6. Add extract and nutmeg; pour equal amount into cups
  7. Set cups in warm pan of water (about ¾ “) and place in oven at 300° for 1 ¼ hours; remove, allow to cool; cover and refrigerate for 2 days
