Popular cake recipe, especially during the holidays!

 

 

Ingredients:

  • 2 ½ cups all purpose flour
  • 1 tsp cocoa
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 ½ cups oil
  • 1 ½ cups sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp vinegar
  • 1 2-ounce bottle of red food coloring
  • 1 8-ounce package of cream cheese, softened
  • ½ cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup chopped nuts
  • 1 16-ounce box powdered sugar
    Directions:
  1. Sift together flour, cocoa, baking soda, and salt
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine oil, sugar, and eggs; add sifted ingredients and mix well at medium speed
  3. Add buttermilk, vanilla, vinegar, and food coloring continue mixing
  4. Pour into two 9” greased pans or three 8” pans
  5. Bake at 350° for 25 minutes; remove, place on racks, and cool
  6. In a mixing bowl, blend at medium speed cream cheese and next 3 ingredients until smooth
  7. Spread frosting between layers then over entire outside of cake
