The inclusion of bacon and cheese will 'liven' up your biscuits!
Ingredients:
- 2 cups self-rising flour
- 1 TBS sugar
- 1/3 cup shortening
- 1 cup buttermilk
- ½ tsp baking soda
- ¾ pound sliced bacon, cooked & crumble
- 1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
Directions:
- Combine flour & sugar; cut in shortening with pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse meal, set aside
- Combine buttermilk and soda, stirring until soda dissolves; add buttermilk mixture, bacon, and cheese, stirring until dry ingredients are moistened
- Turn dough out onto lightly floured surface, and knead lightly 4 or 5 times
- Roll dough to ½” thickness; cut with 2” biscuit cutter
- Place on lightly greased baking sheet and bake at 425° for 10-12 minutes
